Data Analysis

Data Analysis

WHO Health EDRM Knowledge Hub

Health data collected during emergencies using standardized data collection tools, such as the WHO Emergency Medical Team Minimum Data Set (EMT MDS) and Japan Surveillance in Post Extreme Emergencies and Disasters (J-SPEED), needs to be analyzed and disseminated. The findings could be used as lessons for the future emergencies [See Chapter 4.4] to plan and implement efficient and coordinated medical and public health responses, and ensure the best possible care in emergency situations.

This page explains health data analysis and the implications of the findings in the context of Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management (Health EDRM) by introducing series of case studies from a research project between 2019-2021 on ‘Health data collection during emergencies and disasters’ funded by the WHO Kobe Centre in response to a strong need to provide evidence of feasible standardized data collection tools

Case Studies

WHO developed the WHO Emergency Medical Team Minimum Data Set (EMT MDS) and its daily reporting document in 2017 as a standardized medical data collection tool to gather comprehensive and accurate data in the context of disasters and public health emergencies.  See Case Studies 1-5 here
