On August 5, Dr. Megumi Rosenberg, a technical officer at the WHO Centre for Health Development (WHO Kobe Centre - WKC), delivered a keynote address at the Trilateral Youth Summit 2025 in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture. This annual summit aims to promote mutual understanding and friendship among the future leaders of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
The event brought together 48 students - 16 from each country - to discuss pressing global issues, including health and ageing society. The session began with one student representative from each country giving a speech on their country's specific situation and proposing solutions to the challenge of population ageing.
Dr. Rosenberg then moderated a talk session with the students, deepening the discussion on each country's priority issues and responses to population ageing. In her subsequent keynote speech, she introduced the "Healthy Ageing" concept, as defined by WHO, and spoke on the necessary policies and intergenerational cooperation required for the future.
The discussion was highly engaging, with students raising questions and offering opinions on topics such as the significance of establishing international standards for age categories and how to increase public awareness of international initiatives. The knowledge and insights gained from the lecture and talk session contributed to a joint declaration, which was announced by the students on the final day of the summit.
WKC is a global research centre contributing to strengthening health systems in Kobe and Hyogo Prefecture and engages with local communities to share experiences to the world; from global to local and local to global.
